25th February

In the early hours of Sunday morning surrounded by his family Fred passed away from leptomeningeal cancer.  He had been in Frimley Park since February 1st after what we thought was an epileptic fit. The hospital staff were amazing and he we were able to make him as comfortable as possible in his final hours.  We are heartbroken at the gaping hole he has left behind but he is now pain free and at peace.

About Fred Hannington's Life

Fred Hannington was an incredible man who touched the lives of many. He was a devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather, and a true friend. This site was created as a way to reflect and remember the truly amazing man Fred was.

Story

Our dad,

Fred Hannington was born and raised in West London.  He went to Oxford Gardens Primary School then St Clement Dane Grammar School.  He also went to Wendy Wisbys Stage School with his brother Bill and sister Jackie.  He used to tell us they were in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but no matter how many time and how slow we watched it we could never find them!

Mum tells of going out with dad the day after her 16th birthday in May 1973 and how every time they went out Dad would say 'See you tommorrow" rather than waiting a few days so I guess he was hooked.

Fred and Deb got married on September 10th 1977 and had me (Danni) in 1978 and Robert in 1982.  We lived in the same house on Treadgold Street until they moved to Chiddingfold in 1997.

He was the kindest, most patient man a kid could ask for in a dad and made the best grandad ever.  Getting his nickname 'Bub-bub' from his first grandson Sebastian while on holiday in Portugal it stuck and he will forever be Bub-bub or Bubs to both his grandsons Sebastian and Rafe.

He loved his family with a devotion that was palpable.  He was always there for us with wisdom and a laugh.  He would always be first to volunteer to help whether it was knocking down a wall, replacing a deck or chopping off the front of a canal boat and building an extension  to make a one bedroom into a two bed!  There wasn't anything my dad couldn't do and he taught us well along the way.  Always a patient teacher happy to explain and bounce ideas with even it we were making it up as we went along!

It's unbelievable to think he is gone and that we can't call him to ask why the car is making a funny noise, or get advice on why the power in tripping or the boiler isn't working or suggest a trip to Wetherspoons for a large mixed grill with extra onion rings!

We would love you you would share your stories, photo and memory for Fred here so that we can all enjoy them and eventually put them all together in a book for his two grandson Rafe and Sebastian to cherish.
